“GOODBYE, BROTHER!” — YOUNGEST U.S. SOLDIER KILLED IN KUWAIT DRONE STRIKE MADE ONE FINAL CALL HOME The family of Declan Coady, the youngest of the six American service members killed in the recent attack in Kuwait, is sharing the heartbreaking story of the final conversation he had just hours before his death. According to relatives, Coady spoke with his brother in what seemed like a normal call at the time — a quick check-in between siblings, the kind of conversation that had happened countless times during his deployment. But near the end of the call, he said something simple that would later carry an entirely different weight: “Goodbye, brother.” At the time, the words didn’t seem unusual, and the conversation ended like many others before it. Only later, after news broke of the deadly drone strike believed to be linked to Iran, did the family realize that those few words would become the final thing they would ever hear from him. The attack, which claimed the lives of six U.S. soldiers, has sent shockwaves through military communities and across the country. As loved ones now remember the young service member’s life, that last phone call has become one of the most emotional details emerging from the tragedy — a quiet moment between brothers that no one realized would be their final goodbye.

Declan Coady, youngest of six US soldiers killed in Iranian drone strike in Kuwait, called his brother hours before death

The youngest of six US soldiers killed in an Iranian drone attack in Kuwait called his brother and tried to reassure his family back home – only hours before his death.

Declan Coady, 20, spoke to his brother, who was stationed in Italy, just hours before a command center was hit by an Iranian drone Sunday, his dad Andrew told CBS News on Wednesday.

“Based off timing, and what we know so far, and we don’t know specifics but we are making an assumption based off of timing, it was shortly after that phone call that this happened, and his operation center got hit,” the devastated dad said.

Coady, just two months from turning 21, had been communicating frequently with his family back home before his death.

“Declan had been sending us updates – every one to two hours – ‘Hey, everything’s still good. I’m good,’ which goes to show you he was still thinking about us,” Andrew said.
