an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shooting and killing Renee Good in Minneapolis earlier this month<\/a>. She also called out a \u201cgrowing pattern of abusive enforcement tactics\u201d under President Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n\u201cFor the last year, Donald Trump\u2019s Department of Homeland Security, under the leadership of Kristi Noem, has terrorized communities across the country with a violent, authoritarian and chaotic attack on our communities,\u201d Leger Fern\u00e1ndez said.\u00a0\u201cLast week, the entire country saw a clear display of their hateful abuse of force when an ICE agent shot and killed Ren\u00e9e Nicole Good, a loving and kind mother, partner and community member.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fernandez called out Noem for her response to the shooting.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore any investigation could take place and before the public viewed the multiple videos showing the killing, Kristi Noem declared that the mother \u2014 who had her dog in the back seat of the car she was eventually shot in \u2014 was engaged in an \u2018act of domestic terrorism.\u2019 Noem asked Americans to ignore what we can see with our own eyes,\u201d Fernandez said.<\/p>\n
Fernandez called on the Trump administration to conduct a \u201cthorough, objective and impartial\u201d investigation into Good\u2019s death. She also called for action if Noem doesn\u2019t step down.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf she does not step down, I will support congressional action, up to and including impeachment, to make sure we have accountability at the highest levels of the Department of Homeland Security \u2014 not just for Ren\u00e9e Good\u2019s death \u2014 but for the pain our cities and towns have suffered under Noem\u2019s direction,\u201d\u00a0Fernandez said.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nResponse from New Mexico\u2019s Republican Party<\/h2>\n
