Sarah Danh is slowly taking steps toward recovery.<\/p>\n

After three weeks of an emotionally taxing and challenging health battle, Danh\u2019s family says there\u2019s finally \u201cgood news.\u201d Just over a week ago, the San Antonio labor and delivery nurse, 27,\u00a0returned to Texas\u00a0on an\u00a0emergency medical evacuation flight\u00a0after\u00a0suffering a sudden \u201clife-threatening health decline\u201d\u00a0for unknown reasons on the second day of her honeymoon in Japan.<\/p>\n

Since she was initially hospitalized overseas on April 9,\u00a0Danh has been in a coma on life support\u00a0and diagnosed with acute liver failure, among other serious health issues.<\/p>\n

Danh returned to the U.S. on April 21, and five days later her uncle, Khang Le, shared that she was\u00a0showing signs of \u201cgradual improvement\u201d\u00a0and \u201cslowly emerging from the coma.\u201d He cited \u201csmall but deeply meaningful signs that she is aware of her family\u2019s presence,\u201d which included gently squeezing\u00a0her mother Le Le\u2019s hand and faintly nodding when asked if she could hear. At the time, an MRI of Danh\u2019s brain detected damage, but doctors told the family that the brain damage may be \u201creversible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, Khang is sharing the most hopeful update yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince my last update, Sarah\u2019s condition has been improving each day, and she is physically getting stronger,\u201d he wrote on\u00a0Facebook\u00a0on April 30. \u201cShe is no longer on life support and is breathing on her own. She has also been able to wiggle her toes and move her arms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Danh\u2019s physical condition is slowly improving, Khang explained that her motor and speech abilities are limited. She is currently unable to speak and needs assistance with primary life functions.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is still far from being able to do basic things such as taking a sip of water, eating, controlling her fingers, opening her mouth, or saying any words,\u201d he wrote. \u201cHer memory seems to come and go. She has been able to express discomfort, sadness, and happiness, and she smiles, cries, and even giggles when I say silly things to get a reaction from her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Danh has seemingly expressed several different emotions, but Khang noted that these responses \u201coften come and go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another major health milestone is that Danh is starting to walk with assistance. Khang shared, \u201cThis morning, the doctors tested her strength and helped her stand. With assistance, Sarah was able to take a few small steps.\u201d<\/p>\n

Khang concluded his post by thanking supporters. Danh\u2019s GoFundMe surpassed $187,000 on April 27, and has since been taken down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI truly believe the prayers and support you have all provided have given Sarah the strength and courage to keep fighting for her life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Further testing is needed to fully determine the cause of Danh\u2019s unexpected health decline. Her health journey is far from over.
