Auburn, Alabama \u2014\u00a0Major John \u201cAlex\u201d Klinner<\/strong>, a 33-year-old officer in the\u00a0United States Air Force<\/strong>, is being remembered by family, friends and fellow service members after he was killed in a military aircraft crash in\u00a0western Iraq<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0March 12, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Pentagon<\/strong>\u00a0confirmed that\u00a0Maj. John A. Klinner<\/strong>\u00a0was among the six airmen who died when a\u00a0KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft<\/strong>\u00a0went down during operations connected to\u00a0Operation Epic Fury<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The crash occurred while the aircraft was flying in friendly airspace, and military officials said the incident\u00a0was not caused by hostile fire<\/strong>. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

Klinner had served in the\u00a0U.S. Air Force for eight years<\/strong>\u00a0and held a leadership role within the\u00a099th Air Refueling Squadron<\/strong>, which operates under the\u00a06th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida<\/strong>, with units also based at\u00a0Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base in Birmingham, Alabama<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Beyond his military service, those closest to him describe\u00a0Alex Klinner<\/strong>\u00a0as a dedicated husband, a loving father and a person who consistently placed the needs of others before his own.<\/p>\n

Klinner is survived by his wife,\u00a0Libby Klinner<\/strong>, and their three young children \u2014 a\u00a0two-and-a-half-year-old child and seven-month-old twins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

His family had recently moved into a new home and were preparing for the next chapter of their lives before the devastating news arrived.<\/p>\n

In a message shared publicly,\u00a0Libby Klinner<\/strong>\u00a0described the profound impact of her husband\u2019s loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn March 12, our world shattered,\u201d\u00a0Libby Klinner<\/strong>\u00a0wrote while remembering the moment she learned about the crash.<\/p>\n

She described her husband as her best friend and said the loss is especially heartbreaking for their children, who will grow up without knowing their father personally.<\/p>\n

Family members say\u00a0Alex Klinner<\/strong>\u00a0was known for his kindness, humor and willingness to help others without hesitation.<\/p>\n

According to those who served with him, he embodied the qualities of a\u00a0servant leader<\/strong>, someone who quietly supported those around him while remaining deeply committed to his mission.<\/p>\n

A graduate of\u00a0Auburn University<\/strong>, Klinner entered the Air Force through the\u00a0Air Force ROTC program<\/strong>\u00a0before building a career in aviation and aerial refueling operations.<\/p>\n

Throughout his service, he participated in multiple deployments supporting operations in\u00a0Europe and the Middle East<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following his death, relatives and friends have rallied around the family.\u00a0Sarah Rose Harrill<\/strong>, Klinner\u2019s sister-in-law, organized a fundraising campaign to help support\u00a0Libby Klinner<\/strong>\u00a0and the couple\u2019s three children as they navigate life after the loss.<\/p>\n

Military leaders and public officials across the United States have expressed condolences for the fallen airman and the other crew members who died in the crash.<\/p>\n

As the investigation continues into the incident that claimed the lives of\u00a0Maj. John A. Klinner<\/strong>,\u00a0Capt. Ariana G. Savino<\/strong>,\u00a0Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt<\/strong>,\u00a0Capt. Seth R. Koval<\/strong>,\u00a0Capt. Curtis J. Angst<\/strong>, and\u00a0Tech. Sgt. Tyler H. Simmons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
