Rosanna Scotto mourned the loss of her former Fox 5 New York co-anchor Ernie Anastos after\u00a0the local news icon passed away.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was in college, I had the opportunity to be introduced to Ernie and ask him what it would take to get into the TV business,\u201d Scotto told Page Six in an exclusive statement Thursday.<\/p>\n

The \u201cGood Day New York\u201d star recalled Anastos being \u201cvery gracious with his time and advice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Years later, she went on to work with Anastos at WNYW.\u201cLo and behold, a number of years later, I had the honor of anchoring with Ernie on the 10 o\u2019clock news,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was a terrific newsman\u2014compassionate and fair.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scotto said she learned so much from Anastos \u2014 including how to \u201cstay cool under pressure\u201d and the importance of giving back to the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved working with him,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are all heartbroken to hear that he\u2019s passed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Scotto, 67, also took to social media to honor his legacy, writing in a touching Instagram post, \u201cI enjoyed working with him, anchoring alongside of him on the 10 o\u2019clock news. He was a good man and someone we really looked up to. We are all heartbroken.\u201dShe also included a video montage capturing sweet memories together \u2014 from on set to nights out in New York City.<\/p>\n

Loved ones confirmed Anastos\u2019 death to ABC 7 News on Thursday. He was 82.<\/p>\n

The longtime journalist\u2019s broadcast career spanned more than four decades, becoming a fixture and one of the most recognizable faces on the local news.<\/p>\n

In 1978, he joined WABC-TV as an anchor for the station\u2019s Eyewitness News. From there, he went on to serve as the lead anchor at WCBS-TV, WWOR-TV and WNYW.<\/p>\n

Scotto said she loved working with him and is \u201cheartbroken\u201d over his passing.Rosanna Scotto\/Instagram
\n<\/span>Over the course of his 40-years on camera, he covered major news events, including the September 11 attacks and the deaths of Princess Diana and John F. Kennedy Jr.Anastos earned more than 30 Emmy Awards and nominations, including a Lifetime Emmy. He also received the Edward R. Murrow Award for broadcast excellence.<\/p>\n

Outside of journalism, Anastos wrote the children\u2019s book \u201cErnie & The Big Newz: The Adventures of a TV Reporter,\u201d ran the production company Anastos Media Group and hosted a radio commentary segment on WABC.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n
